Are you living your life's purpose?

Hi Everyone,

Do you ever feel stuck in a rut? Be honest with yourself.

You know what I'm talking about --- where you know you can do more with your life and just can't seem to get any momentum. This is actually pretty common - note I did not say "normal" - just "common!"

Much of this comes from external programming we receive from so-called friends, altruistic family members, and other knights in shining armor. You know the types. These people spend more time telling you what you cannot do and why you should take the easy route instead of trying new things and taking some chances.

Take it from me - these people are LOSERS plain and simple. I'll bet my last dollar that if you take a look at these so-called experts on everything, they've accomplished nothing with their lives. About all their good at is running off at the mouth.

If you have a passion...do something about it! Remember..."the journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step." You have no idea how much time you have left...GET ON WITH IT MY FRIEND! Don't die with your music unplayed.

If you think you're too poor to start a new business...I'll guarantee someone was poorer and made it work. If you think you're too old...I'll bet someone was much older than you that made it work. If you're out-of-shape...remember - there's probably someone more out-of-shape than you who has made it work. Bottom line...stop making excuses and get off your rear end. If you have a decent head on your shoulders, two arms, and two legs...you're way ahead of the game. I've heard a multitude of stories about functional illiterates who have become HUGE success stories.

Here's one about a personal friend of mine named Tom Harkin. I dined with him and Art Linkletter a few years ago and his story damn near moved me like no other. Art was in tears!

Read it at...
http://www.usdreams.com/Harken6061.html

Make a conscious effort to take that first step in your new journey and go to the following link...
http://www.abundance-and-happiness.com/life-purpose.html

I came across this passage and thought I'd share it with you.

Until next time...
Peter

PS...If you want to do a great exercise which may help you figure out your life's purpose. Take out a clean sheet of paper and write your obituary. Ask yourself...how you would like to be remembered. Complete the exercise and you may be surprised what you come up with.

Absolute stupidity!

Hi Everyone,

Here's an example of the media misleading people with their strategic ignorant communication...

The Midwest Islamic Center in Schaumburg, IL was recently vandalized in an overnight break-in. Donations were stolen, the front door was smashed, and an office was completely trashed. And to make matters worse, the vandal(s) even took the liberty of smearing blood all over the building. Pretty bad huh?

So last night I'm watching the news and a reporter goes through the entire story in all it's grotesque detail. At the end of the story, he says "investigators are trying to determine if this is a "hate" crime."

This begs the question --- when was the last time someone who liked you stole your money, vandalized your home/business, and then splattered their blood all over? Maybe the news reporter thinks this could possibly be a "like" crime. I do not have to be some highly-trained police investigator or a media mogul to figure out this is an absolute "hate" crime and should be treated as such.

Bottom line...always be extra critical of what anyone tells you...especially the media! Use common sense first and leave blind faith to the moonies, sunnies, and all the other crazy religious radicals.

Until next time...

One of Chicago's best kept secrets!

Hi Everyone,

If you're into muscle cars, classic cars, and TV/movie cars, visit the Volo Auto Museum in Volo, IL.

Not only can you see some of the most amazing cars...you can actually purchase them. They have most makes and models, as well as rare collectors cars. In fact, Joe Perry from Aerosmith recently purchased a rare Oldsmobile 442 here. Members of the rock group Metallica have also recently purchased cars here during their last concert tour. Celebrities visit here from all over the world.

The Volo Auto Museum even contains the largest collection of George Barris show cars...including one of the world famous original Batmobiles!

This is my favorite car and one day I'm going to own it. For more information on the Volo Auto Museum, go to...http://www.volocars.com

Are "they" really that smart?

Hi Everyone,

Has someone ever told you..."that's what they say." I'm sure you must have heard this hundreds of times.

Before you follow what "they" say --- consider who "they" really are. Are "they" the all-knowing or the smartest people in the world? Why do "they" never seem to have a name or affiliation? I'll tell you why. It's because "they" are a figment of the imagination of the person you're speaking with.

To prove my point...all you have to do is ask the person you're speaking with who "they" is? You'll get a moment of silence and/or a blank stare. Or better yet, you'll get an obviously stupid response.

I understand that we all want to look smart --- and it shouldn't be at the expense of someone who may need some real help. If you do not truly know the answer to someone's question...do the world a favor and keep quiet. Or do something productive and help them find a credible answer. Now that will make you look smart!

Next time someone says, "they say...", ignore everything they tell you. They have no idea what they're talking about.

And if you have a question about anything...consult a QUALIFIED person or reference to get an answer that will help you...not some uncredible babble.

If you need financial advice...seek out a qualified financial planner or accountant!
If you need medical advice...seek out a qualified physician!
If you need business advice...seek out qualified people who have successfully owned and operated a business!

You get the point!

There are qualified people all around you to help you with just about any issue or challenge you may be facing.

Start seeking out qualified people today by sending questions to...

How to become a public speaking impresario!

Hi Everyone,

People are constantly asking me for advice on making presentations, giving lectures, and speaking with effectiveness.

With that in mind...I'm going to answer a recent e-mail request by giving you the formula for giving an effective speech designed STRICTLY to give your audience information.

1. Prior to giving your presentation...make sure you're speaking to an audience that's interested. If they're not interested, you're wasting your time and theirs.

2. Make sure you fit your presentation to a pre-determined timeframe. If possible, speak no longer than an hour at a time. Every hour give a 20-minute break. Keep in mind that people need to have information spoon-fed to them. (Marathons are for runners and triathletes only.)

3. Make sure you're speech breaks up the information in segments or steps. For instance...The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People...you get the point. This is easy for an audience to follow.

4. Make sure to re-iterate your points to the audience in lingo they can understand. Ask your audience if they understand what you said. If not, go back and re-explain. Keep the jargon and the Harvard education in the trunk of your car. Talking over people's heads makes won't make you look smart. You'll look like an elitist ass!

5. Give real life examples of what you're talking about. Save the theoretical trash. If you cannot speak from experience...you should not be presenting the topic in the first place.

6. Use easy-to-read visual aids that support your topic.

7. Watch the audience's attitude. Make sure they're enjoying your presentation. An audience will give you plenty of clues if you're boring them to death. If so, either change your approach or wrap up the talk.

8. Stay on point and have a great time!

One of my favorite books on public speaking is Dale Carnegie's "The Quick & Easy Way to Effective Speaking."

You can get it at...

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0671724002/sr=1-1/qid=1155332770/ref=pd_bbs_1/103-7617561-1658212?ie=UTF8&s=books

Happy speaking!!!!!

A lesson in creativity or the world's most elaborate circus? Maybe both!

Hi Everyone,

If you want to see creativity at it's finest and a show guaranteed to leave you spellbound...check out a Cirque du Soleil show.

Last night my wife and I attended a show in Chicago called "Corteo."

Corteo, which means "cortege" in Italian, is a joyous procession, a festive parade imagined by a clown. The production brings together the passion of the actor with the grace and power of the acrobat to plunge the audience into a theatrical world of fun, comedy and spontaneity situated in a mysterious space between heaven and earth. The clown pictures his own funeral taking place in a carnival atmosphere, watched over by quietly caring angels. Juxtaposing the large with the small, the ridiculous with the tragic and the magic of perfection with the charm of imperfection, the show highlights the strength and fragility of the clown, as well as his wisdom and kindness, to illustrate the portion of humanity that is within each of us. The music, by turns lyrical and playful, carries Corteo through a timeless celebration in which illusion teases reality.

Is that creative or what? Who would have ever thought you could stage a successful show combining clowns and funerals? The live experience is nothing short of magnificent and will send your mind racing!

The Founder and Chief Executive Officer "Guy Laliberté" is a true rags to riches story. His creative ambitions have turned him from a street performer to multi-millionaire. His shows in Las Vegas bring in the highest percentage of entertainment revenue.

If you'd like to learn how to foster the same creative spark as the Cirque du Soleil, I encourage you to pick up a book called "The Spark." Here, former Cirque du Soleil Creative Content President Lyn Heward walks you through the creative process.

The book is available at...
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0385516517/sr=1-1/qid=1154999108/ref=pd_bbs_1/103-1389772-2916667?ie=UTF8&s=books

This is second show we've attended and plan on seeing our third, when we visit Las Vegas next year.

For more information on Cirque du Soleil, go to...

What can we learn from Jim Morrison?

Hi Everyone,

Many years ago I read a poetry book written by the Door's legendary singer Jim Morrison. I think it was called "Lords and New Creatures." In this book he discussed how America loves to build people up just to tear them down later. I believe he was on to something.

Case in point...Mel Gibson!

Here's a man who has entertained us for decades with phenomenal movies, including the highly acclaimed "Passion of the Christ." (Personally I preferred the "Lethal Weapon" films or even "What Women Want" - but that's another blog entry.) We loved him so much a couple weeks ago - and now he's public enemy number one. What am I getting at?

First of all, I find it strange that with multiple wars going on, taxes, inflation, family issues, and employment challenges, most people and the media have enough time to criticize a man who is a multi-millionaire "doer." Mel Gibson has dedicated his life to entertaining others. He's put his time and money on the line to make a difference. Whether you like him or not...give him some credit.

Here's the reality. He got drunk and made some comments he arguably shouldn't have. Is he the first to do this? Have you ever done this? Maybe a friend? Should we drag you or your friends through the press and call you out for all you've done wrong? Give me a break.

While I don't condone the allegations and do not go on drunken tirades, I still feel he deserves a break. Dr. Phil said it best...he's not a bad guy. He messed up and apologized...what else do we expect him to do.

Let's stop building people up to tear them down. If you're going to put someone on a pedestal for some reason - stay loyal. This is why I love the saying, "people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones."

Jim Morrison had it right...we've become a society filled with know-it-all, fickle, hypocrites!

Until next time...

Can you believe this?

Hi Everyone!

Here's luck for you...

I just found out that my bestselling book "Negotiate Your Way to Riches" is now being published by McGraw Hill as a textbook for business students in Taiwan.

When I initially wrote the galley of this book, I never had the intention of making money. It was just a credibility booster. Now it's exploding in the U.S., Korea, and Taiwan!

I guess it's true...I'd rather be lucky than good. Sometimes you just have to take a risk with no expectations. Some call it the "Law of Detachment."

If you have a yearning and that voice inside you says to go for it...DO IT NOW! And don't let anyone tell you different.

Until next time...

Are You a Victim of PowerPoint Hell?

How many times have you sat through some muttonhead's boring powerpoint presentation? You know the type...a supposed genious (usually just a stuffed shirt) who likes to look smart by presenting a room full of people 50+ slides in 30 minutes, never really making a point. You've been there huh?

Here's what scary...many people reading this blog fall into this category. If this sounds like you or someone you know (hint, hint), I have some constructive advice...so listen up my friend...it's time for a dose of reality!!!!!

If you have to make a presentation...
- Speak with enthusiasm. Remember, I probably could care less about what you have to say in the first place. I have bigger concerns than what you have to say...you know...the wars, gas prices, mortgage payments, what the guy next to me is doing, my hair, the kid's education, and oh did I forget...sex! Which by the way is way more interesting than you - and statistics show that 65% of your audience is doing the same at some point.
- Know your topic. Please do not read from the slides. It's obvious and you look unprepared.
- Use BIG visuals!!!! If you have to call it an eye-chart...DON'T use it!!!!! It's a waste and I'm going to be looking around the room for salvation. After all, when was the last time you had a great time reading an eyechart????
- Move around. Please don't hide behind the podium. I want to see you. Have a personality.
- Make a few points and make sure I get it. Don't pretend to be a teacher giving a textbook full of information in a few minutes. It takes time to learn. I probably do not know your subject as well as you - otherwise I would not need to hear what you have to say in the first place.
- Interact! Don't just talk at me - talk to me!!!!!!! I hate when people preach to me. Besides, I just may fool you and have a great idea Mr. Stuffed Shirt.
- Save your technical jargon and Harvard B.S. vocabulary. Talk in a way I can understand. Take a lesson from the late-night infomercial guys or the local carnival barker. You'd be surprised what they can teach you about getting the point across.
- Learn how to present. Just because you're in front of me - this does not give you qualifications as a presenter.
- Don't make excuses. If you're late starting, you're off to a bad start...period, end of story. I could careless about you're problems...I have enough of my own. Say what you have to say, so I can get back to thinking about sex.

Until next time my friends...
Peter
